At Costa Rhu, the revitalisation of its wayfinding system was a strategic design intervention that married functionality with coastal identity. Outdated signage was replaced with a cohesive, contemporary system reflecting the estate’s seaside character while enhancing daily navigation.
The design drew inspiration from a wave motif, chosen for its versatility and resonance with Costa Rhu’s coastal setting. Undulating lines evoked the ocean’s rhythm, with high-contrast markings for primary vehicular routes and neutral tones guiding secondary pathways.
An in-depth audit first highlighted critical issues: inconsistent block naming, unclear basement car park signage, and fragmented zoning. These were addressed through a dual-strategy approach.
For vehicles, streamlined ingress and egress routes—including dedicated drop-off points and secondary ramps—eases congestion. For pedestrians, a signage hierarchy and sheltered walkways improved accessibility.
What began as a solution to directional confusion became a holistic visual refresh, proving thoughtful wayfinding shapes not just movement, but how people perceive and experience a place.
